THREADWORKS 2010 - "Trees"
Submitted by Elizabeth Duggan Litch

Report - January, 2012

I had some interesting conversations with Margaret Hartviksen at the Thunder Bay Museum recently. Thought you'd be interested to read our correspondence (with her permission)

"Hello Margaret, I'm wondering if Threadworks has arrived, and if the crates are in good order ? "If you have any questions as you unpack, please don't hesitate to write or call. So far, the show has been well attended and appreciated."
Elizabeth Duggan Litch

"WOW is all I can say. Was going to email you soon as I got everything installed. Show opens today.

"Everything was in fine order upon arrival. I don't see any damage of any kind. GREAT job by everyone with labelling and photos on all the packaging -- will make packing up much, much easier! The Assistant Curator and I Ooooed and Awwwwwed with every piece we unwrapped. Stunning just STUNNING. It looks fabulous in our Antechamber gallery on the third floor.

"We use this gallery as a venue for local and regional artists and crafts people. Will send you photos at some point.

"Visitors were already fascinated before I got the work hung. They were leaning over the tables trying to figure out the various techniques. I'm sure this show will amaze and entice.

"Thanks for making this available to us. We'll certainly be looking forward to hosting the water theme on the next Threadworks tour."
Margaret

'Why do we do this??' To begin with... the challenge of the design... then the work of making the ideas come into being... the excitement of being accepted into the show, and then the pleasure of knowing that people around the Province will get enjoyment from viewing the works. After the show has been on the road for almost three years, seeing the piece again is almost like receiving a gift from your self!"
Elizabeth Duggan Litch

"Yes I imagine everyone's heart is getting fonder for their work by now. I just took another fly-by. Forgot to use the word magical...it certainly suits. Also love reading the artist's statements. Trees have surrounded us all our lives. Everyone has favourites and its meaningful reading how these giants of nature have touched each individual.
Gifts from gifted artists!"

Margaret
