BIO :   Sylvia was educated in England where she later became a teacher specialising in textile crafts. She then studied City & Guilds of London Embroidery and Textiles. She was awarded a silver medal for the highest marks in the country in her year. She has taught workshops in Canada, the USA and England. She has won numerous awards and has been featured in several publications.

IN 2008 she had articles in Quilting Arts [USA] April/May issue, Fall issue and Bernina magazine [Switzerland].
In 2009 one of her pictures could be seen in Quilting Arts calendar.

Early in 2010 she was awarded an Ontario Arts Council grant.

In 2010 a piece of Sylvia's will be in '500 Art Quilts', Lark publishing;  two pieces will be in "1000 Artisan Textiles" to be published by Quarry Press in the USA and more work in Joan Wolfram's new book.

She has exhibited her artwork extensively in galleries in England, Canada and the U.S. Her work is in private collections in many countries.

SKILLS :   Classes are 1-5 days in duration. I will accommodate most levels of experience in most of the classes. Classes can be customised to suit a group. Most of my classes involve working with the sewing machine.

Examples of one-day classes :

- Picture a landscape
- Stitch a landscape
- Flowers in bloom
- Stitch a house
- Transfer painting
- Stitching tulips, thread painting
- Working with textures

5-day classes include a lot of exercises aimed at developing design skills. Students work with a variety of paints and other media as well as using the sewing machine creatively. Some hand stitching may be included.

FEES :   A lecture, trunk show is $ 300.00

Workshop :  (June 2011 to June 2012) $ 410.00 per day for a 6-hour class, plus .50 per kilometre for travel.

TRAVEL :   I am very happy to stay in a home. If I can combine teaching in other places to cut down on travel costs then your group will benefit.

I am now resident in Kingston.
