Trained as a couturier and milliner, Merydie has designed garments, accessories and jewellery, both for the private sector and through historical commissions for National Museums. Her experience in clothing design lead to a growing interest in wearable art, a milieu where, in international shows, she expressed her ideas through nature, using Canadian trees for her symbolism. Merydie has work in the Museum of Civilization, the National Aviation Museum, and various historical sites around Canada. Since working in this new medium, she has shown work in group and solo shows in Nova Scotia and Ontario. Her goldwork creations are in many private collections, the most noteworthy being "The Bouquet of Remembrance and Celebration". This extraordinary, 42" high sculpture, designed and engineered by Merydie, was completed with the help of 10 other embroiderers. Created to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Tulip Festival in 2002, it is permanently displayed at the Royal Palace in The Netherlands. Merydie's background includes Interior Design from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Haute Couture from L'Acadamie Couturier Canadienne. As a jewellery designer and embroidery artist, she is largely self-taught. Merydie enjoys living on the LaHave River, with her husband and two dogs. SKILLS : Goldwork. FEES : $ 400.00 per day.
