NORFOLK'S OWN NEEDLE ARTS GUILD
Submitted by Lotte von Wuerzen, ONN Representative
Report - January, 2012
It has been a busy season for our guild.
Our highlight was, hosting Tanja Berlin for a 2-day workshop in October on needlepainting. We had a full class with members from Brant Broderers, Guelph Embroidery Guild and Tulip Guild participating. With combined effort, everything went of very well and everybody enjoyed the workshop.
Our programme started with learning a new, less known stitch from A to Z.
| A - Arrasene |
= stitching with a chenille type floss on velvet or silk |
| B - Breton Work |
= mainly borders stitched on cloth or silk with chain or satin stitch in
silk or gold thread |
| B - Brocade Embroidery |
= outlining flowers or geometric design in stem stitch |
| C - Canadian Embroidery |
= native embroidery with porcupine quills on leather or bark. |
It sure was a challenge to work with porcupine quills.
We also are busy supplying our local museum with Christmas ornaments, stitched cards and bookweights, which is a fundraiser for us.
We all will gather on December 14 for our annual Christmas dinner at the Erie Beach Hotel in Port Dover.
On that note, we wish everybody the best of the season.
