NIAGARA PENINSULA NEEDLE ARTS GUILD
Submitted by Charlene Wynia, ONN representative
Report - August, 2011
Summer is my favourite time of year, but this summer I am very thankful for our air conditioner. Spring seemed to have many cold and wet days, but since then we have had lots of hot and sunny days. Hopefully, after a hot and busy summer, we will all be looking forward to the routine of Fall once again.
With the coming of Fall, the Niagara Peninsula Needle Arts Guild will again resume with our regular meetings at Balls Falls. We meet the first Tuesday of each month. At present we have 47 members, but the facility can accommodate many more stitchers, so if you know of anyone who might be interested, please encourage them to come and join us.
We work on a wide variety of interesting projects, and the fellowship with others who love the needle arts is great. If you are unable to join a day guild, you might be interested in joining the evening guild. They a have monthly meeting at Heidehof Home for the Aged on Lake Street in St. Catharines. Their sessions are mainly "stitch-ins", where those who attend work on projects that they're busy with.
Many members of the guild also get together monthly for stitch-ins at the various members homes. It's a great time to finish off all the half finished projects we have stashed somewhere in the back of our closets.
The program directors have again been busy setting up a new schedule of activities for the coming year. What follows is our tentative schedule :
| September - | Ribbon Embroidery |
| October - | Mini Thread Catcher |
| November - | Brazilian Embroidery |
| December - | Christmas ornament or needle felted ornament |
| January - | no meeting |
| February - | Fifi fairies |
| March and April - | Workshops |
| May - | Stumpwork leaves |
| June - | Needle tatting |
A large project that we will be working on throughout the year is the Balls Falls Needlework Exhibition.
The suggested theme is "Needlework and Nature".
The exhibition is scheduled to take place July 6 - October 14, 2013.
It is creating a lot of interest and excitement so if you'd like to be involved, PLEASE come join us.
I'll end on that note, except to thank the board members who have finished their terms, and to welcome those who are willing to serve for the coming year.
