The new rage in stitching threads is the over-dyed 12 weight from Sulky threads. People are using this thread for their over one thread stitching. Also the 30 weight plain colours can be plied up for stitching too. There are more colours in this 30 weight compared to the colours available from either DMC, Marlitt or Patina from Rainbow Gallery.

On our way home (from ONN AGM) we stopped at the wee stitching shop in Peterborough. I picked up the Country Register there. Whenever I've been over to Michigan I always pick up their issues of the Register, so of course I picked up the Canadian one there. There's a free pattern inside to use in various forms of embroidery and the pattern has the address for more free patterns.

E-Tip - Removing Blue Marks - Laurel Burch - Programs & Events

Good morning Emma,

I have a great tip for removing the "blue dot" marker left on fabrics, particularly linen. I made the most fabulous white linen dress and did a large design on the front bodice. I removed the "blue dots" with a wet cotton bud as well as rinsing the dress in cold water.

When dry I ironed it only to find in horror that where the blue marking dots were, there were now brown dots! I tried everything to get them out bu t nothing helped. I called my local Bernina dealer, asked friends, even suppliers of the markers but they couldn't help. Then a brain wave - I tried a drop of fresh lemon juice on each dot and the marks disappeared. Fantastic! These dots only seem to appear on linen or cotton fabrics for some reason. Please share my tip with the rest of the world!

Shelley - South Africa

Editor Emma :   I've had several people ask what to do about those blue marks. This lovely lady from South Africa may have found the trick

We've heard stories about a new stitching shop in Brantford for a while but no name or address. Yesterday we found the name and address and quickly drove off to see for ourselves. The store is called :

Country Accents
399 Colborne Street (at Peel)
Brantford,   ON   N2S 3N4
Tel :   519-512-0050

The Owner is willing to "order in".   Very friendly and helpful Staff.
A good selection of DMC threads, Mill Hill Beads, Kreinik threads, a silk thread that could be used for surface stitching also and reasonably priced.
Lots of Nordic Needle books on Handanger and a good selection of fabrics.
The store is only about a year old.
There was also a good selection of charts and books. Mill Hill kits and scissors, hoops, etc.

DMC Press Release

Here is a Press Release that DMC has provided to explain the situation for DMC and specifically how it effect US operations:

For Immediate Release

South Kearny, N.J., April 30, 2008
In recent days, there has been a significant amount of information in the form of press releases, media reports, etc. regarding financial difficulties and operational restructuring plans at the DMC corporate offices in France. Those activities and court filings within the legal system in France are directed towards seeking a formal resolution for two divisions within the DMC Corporation (Sportswear fabric and a small chain of retail stores found only in France) that are not related to the embroidery thread and craft activities, which remain the core business of the corporation.

In addition, the U.S. division of DMC operates as a separate legal and financial entity with its own financing, receivables, payables, etc, and as such, is not included in any legal filing or petitions to the courts that may occur in France. We are financially secure and fully prepared to conduct business as usual here in the U.S.

DMC has been manufacturing needlework threads for 262 years and we remain committed to providing stitchers with the highest quality embroidery floss, specialty threads, needlework fabrics and other supplies they need to continue to enjoy the wonderful art of needlework. We look forward to continuing to serve all of our customers and loyal users of DMC products into the future.

Joseph D. McCabe
President/CEO
DMC, Inc.

The Cost of Floss
Last night at guild one of our members told us that she was in the Herrschner's store here on Victoria St. in Kitchener. They were busy removing the current price tags on the floss. She remarked that they might be increasing the price but she was told no. They have dropped the price to 33 cents to reflect the Canadian dollar being at par of a bit better with the US one. I wonder if Michaels will follow suit?
I guess we should question those two price tags now there since our dollar is better than theirs?

Threads at Mary Maxim
Mary Maxim store in Paris, Ontario now carries all 36 Color Variations threads by the box or skein for the floss and by the skein for the #5 Perle Cotton. They are also starting to carry Floche. The clerk called it Flower Thread but it didn't look like flower thread. Also they found someone who had a stock of #8 Varigated Perle Cotton. It's 2 years now since DMC stopped making this thread.
