Marie Smit's Notes and Links

It was a busy Fall session of stitching for our guild. The theme of our classes was stitching on canvas.

Debbie Collins, a guild member, led us in the techniques for stitching a sampler with wool threads. This project was followed by another sampler project stitched with perle cotton threads. Maria Smit, a guild member, was the instructor for the perle cotton sampler. We all learned that counting threads correctly the first time makes for less ripping out and happier stitchers.

Our guild participated in a Culture Days event held at the Joseph Schneider Haus on Saturday, October 1, to showcase local guilds. We had a table display of stitched items and members of the guild demonstrated various stitching techniques.

We held our annual Christmas potluck social and handmade ornament exchange on December 13. It's always fun to see the variety of ornaments stitched by our talented members.

The Winter session begins on January 3 with a novelty embroidery project using basic embroidery stitches. Maria Smit is our instructor. We're told the project has something to do with chocolates.

We have invited Alma Laidlaw to be our instructor for a sashiko project. Alma will teach us for two classes. In between these classes we will progress on the project on our own. The Winter session ends on April 24 with our annual meeting.

Guild meetings are 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm every second week, from September to April, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterloo. New members, whatever their skill levels, are always welcome.
