CANADIAN EMBROIDERERS' GUILD KITCHENER-WATERLOO
Submitted by Jean Webster, ONN Representative Report - August, 2010 Our Guild marked the end of the teaching year with its Annual General Meeting and year-end social. We also had a stash sale of items left over from previous sales. The interest was low in the stash sale items so the leftovers are now on their way to a local thrift shop. This year was a changeover year for the Executive with new people taking over the following positions: President, Secretary, Treasurer and Member-at-Large. The new Executive is now busy planning the Fall and Winter sessions. Proposed classes include hardanger and stump work. The classes will be lead by members of our own guild and invited teachers. A guest speaker has been invited for one class in September. We also plan to spend some class time working on the ONN challenge bag project. Our guild was pleased to participate in a new venture this spring. Along with the Canadian Embroiderers' Guild, Guelph, we displayed samples of our work in The Mill in St. Jacobs, from May 25 to 29, as part of the Quilt and Fibre Art Festival. The variety of work was amazing. Many positive comments about participation of the two Embroidery guilds in the Festival were received from the people who toured the display. Members from each guild manned the display daily. Many thanks to the CEG Guelph for inviting us to be part of this exciting opportunity. Both guilds saw this event as a way to promote ourselves in the community and hope it will result in new members for each guild. Check our web page During the summer we are keeping in touch by holding stitch-ins at members' homes. In June we met at the home of Jane Prime. Jo Rich opened her home to us in July, and in August, Enid Emery is hosting the final summer stitch-in. For the month of August the Guild will have a display at Kitchener's Grand River Stanley Park Community Library. Our members are looking forward to another year of stitching and fellowship. We meet from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm every second week, from September to April, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Registration is Tuesday, September 7, 2010. New members, whatever their skill levels, are always welcome. For more information about our Guild activities please contact :
