Report - January, 2012
Our guild has had a very busy fall this year. Our opening meeting was held on National Stitch in Public day, September 27 at the Ridgetown Senior Centre. We had an enjoyable afternoon making ORT boxes, stitching on our various projects and organizing our upcoming Vendor sale and tea room. We had a very successful Vendor Sale on October 1, showing off our needlework skills by way of items to sell, as well as promoting our guild to the public.
Tanja Berlin 'came to town' on October 23. Twenty-six participants learned the technique of Hapsburg Lace. We had several out-of-town guests (who received an ORT box as a favour) joining us for this fabulous workshop. Tanja is a very good teacher who gives a lot of positive encouragement while teaching the different needlework techniques. I also attended the Thread Painting workshop hosted by Norfolk's Own Needle Arts Guild on the previous two days. It was a busy weekend for both Tanja and me.
November and December meetings and stitch-ins were spent trying to complete our Hapsburg Lace Sampler. For some of us, this may be a year long project!
Our Christmas party was Tuesday, December 13, during our usual stitch-in time. Trivia games, embroidery word scrambles and stitching provided lots of laughs in the afternoon followed by a delicious potluck supper. It was a very nice way to end the year 2011.
Afternoon and evening stitch-ins resume Tuesday, January 3, with the monthly business meeting January 24, 2012.
Planning will start for a needlework display at Bright's Grove in September. I will have more to say about that in a future newsletter.
2012 is going to be a creative, busy and productive year for our guild.
Display at the ONN Annual General Meeting (London) - 12 May, 2011.
