BRANT BRODERERS' GUILD
Submitted by Helma Bos, ONN representative
Report - January, 2012
It has been an exciting fall at the Brant Broderers. We are a small but enthusiastic group who enjoy spending time together as much as we enjoy doing embroidery together our yearly programs reflect this. It is always a good time when we meet.
This fall the techniques of Redwork and Pulled Thread work were taught by various members of our group. Once the basic stitch of Redwork was taught each member was given a small design based on a month of the year. The finished pieces will be collected and made into a quilt. What the guild will do with this quilt will be revealed at a later date. The technique of Pulled Thread work was taught and while it was initially a bit of a challenge our members caught on quickly and the results were beautiful. This technique was used to make the decorative outside of pot holders with members adding their individual touches to the finishings.
Our annual ornament contest was held the first week of December with members being given an ornament template at our first meeting in September. This year the ornament was in the shape of a strawberry. We had many exceptional ornaments entered with many different techniques represented and many of us found it hard to pick a favourite. As well as the annual ornament contest our monthly holey card exchange continues to be as popular as ever.
Excitement continues to build in our guild as we are hard at work preparing for our 35th anniversary exhibition to be held in the spring of 2012. More information will be released in future newsletters.
The fall has been busy for our guild and while we are on a short break for the holidays we are all looking forward to our next meeting in late January.
Display at the ONN Annual General Meeting (London) - 12 May, 2011.
